Signs of Depression

The symptoms of depression can be complex and can vary widely between people. 

The symptoms persist for weeks or months and are bad enough to interfere with your work, social life and family life.

There are many other symptoms of depression that you could experience and you're unlikely to have all of those listed on this page.

Low Mood

Feeling a continuous low mood or sadness is one of the main signs of depression. This can lead to loss of appetite and weight

Low Motivation

Having no interest in doing anything, including daily hygiene routines. Not getting any enjoyment from life and the inability to make decisions

Hopelessness

Feeling hopeless and helpless, often accompanied by feeling worthless. Physical signs of this could be moving or speaking slower

Anxiousness

Feeling anxious, or worried. This often leads to lack of energy and a loss of libido

Highly Emotional

This can include feeling tearful, or irritable and intolerant of other people. This can cause disturbed sleep or even insomnia

Suicidal Thoughts

Self-harm or suicidal thoughts is a very severe symptom. This is the time to not be alone, reach out to a friend or family member, or even a stranger. Never be afraid to ask for help
